MP Ali Nehme spoke today, Friday, about the existence of alternatives if the Sunni blocs fail to agree on a single candidate for the presidency of the House of Representatives.
Nehme told Al-Maalouma Agency, “The numerical majority will be an alternative if the Sunni forces do not succeed in putting forward a consensus candidate,” noting that “the political forces are waiting for the Sunni forces’ consensus to put forward a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
He added, “The political forces, including the framework, will not wait for more months, and resorting to a numerical majority will be on the table if the Sunni forces do not succeed in finding a consensus candidate, stressing that the majority to proceed in this direction exists.”
He pointed out that “the ball is now in the court of the Sunni forces in order to decide their options and proceed with nominating a consensus candidate who has the competence and ability to manage the House of Representatives for the coming period.”
It is noteworthy that the compass of the House of Representatives, through most of its members, is pointing towards Representative Salem Al-Issawi as a strong candidate for the presidency of the House.
