MP: Activating the political agreement after electing a new parliament speaker

Shafaq News/ A member of the parliamentary legal committee confirmed on Sunday that the general amnesty law needs political consensus to be approved, noting that electing a new speaker of the House of Representatives will help activate the political agreement and focus efforts on approving the law.
MP Adnan Al-Juhaishi told Shafaq News Agency, “Political differences have suspended many laws in the House of Representatives, most notably the general amnesty, oil and gas laws, and others.”
He added, “The general amnesty law is one of the important laws in the House of Representatives, and it needs political consensus to be approved in the next stage,” explaining that “the draft law was sent by the government to Parliament and is currently with the Parliamentary Legal Committee.”
Al-Juhaishi stressed that, “After electing a new Speaker of the House of Representatives, we will work to activate the political agreement paper, on the basis of which the current government was formed, and we will focus on passing the general amnesty law in the House.”
