The Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed today, Sunday, that the new legislative session of Parliament will begin the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, but its sessions will be held approximately 10 days after the start of the legislative session.
Committee member Raed Al-Maliki said in a press statement that “the House of Representatives will begin its second legislative session on July 9, next Tuesday,” adding: “However, the first session will be held after the tenth of Muharram.”
He explained that “the laws that will top the council’s work are amending the staff law, the right to access information law, the law to recover the proceeds of corruption, amending Article 2 of personal status, the service law for members of the Popular Mobilization Forces, and many other laws.”
Parliament extended its legislative session on May 9 for a full month, until June 9, for the purpose of voting on the budget.
The tenth of Muharram will fall on Wednesday, July 17, which means that Parliament will not hold its session for 10 days before the start of the new legislative term.
