Political analyst Adnan Al-Tamimi revealed on Thursday the secret of Al-Halbousi’s recent meetings in Baghdad and Anbar.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “No one disagrees that Al-Halbousi’s alliance is in a very difficult situation with the recent splits that revealed the fragility of its internal unity and the level of disagreements between its leaders, and the alliance no longer has a Sunni majority compared to the rest of the other forces.”
He added, “Al-Halbousi realized that he was facing a crossroads that would pave the way for the end of his political future, so he took advantage of the occasion of Eid al-Adha to hold meetings in Baghdad and Anbar in an attempt to stop the collapse of the coalition of progress and give reassuring messages to its main coalition leaders after they felt that they were in a boat that was sinking day after day.”
He pointed out that “Al-Halbousi’s movements aim to stop any other defections and preserve what remains of his supporters, but the situation in general does not go with progress amid restlessness that pushes some of the alliance’s leaders to change the compass of their alliances and defect early.”
It is noteworthy that the Taqaddum Alliance witnessed the defection of 11 MPs and local members a few weeks ago, the largest defection the coalition has ever witnessed.
