The leader of the United Anbar Alliance, Muhammad Dahham, confirmed on Tuesday that the dismissed Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, is pressing towards obtaining the presidency of Parliament or continuing the Council without an acting president.
Daham said in a statement to the Maalouma Agency, “The presidency of Parliament cannot be decided between the political parties representing the Sunni component, especially after the aggravation of the crisis and the state of tension and tension between the two poles of the Sunni house.”
He added, “The available data on the ground regarding the presidency of Parliament confirm that Al-Halbousi’s party is pressing towards passing its candidate for the position of Speaker of the Council, and preventing any other party from coming to power.”
He stated, “If the aforementioned party does not achieve its goal of obtaining the presidential position, it will obstruct the access of any other figure to the legislative authority, and thus Mohsen Al-Mandalawi will continue as acting president of the Council, as long as the Sunni House does not reach a specific figure for the presidency.”
