Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein revealed on Saturday evening that the United States had officially asked Iraq to close all border crossings with Iran except for two, noting that Baghdad had informed Tehran that it accepts friendship and alliance with it but rejects interference in its affairs.

Hussein told Al Jazeera, as reported by Shafaq News Agency, that “Baghdad is in contact with Iran regarding the issue of weapons held by Iraqi factions,” noting that “Baghdad has information about foreign entities using Iraqi territory to attack neighboring countries.”

He stressed “the pursuit of resolving differences with Saudi Arabia through frank dialogue,” after it was targeted from Iraqi territory earlier.

Regarding the issue of restricting weapons, he pointed out that “restricting weapons to the state must be done through dialogue, not armed conflict, and Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi has reached understandings with 4 factions regarding the weapons issue,” indicating that “Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq and Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada have agreed to control weapons, and negotiations are continuing with Harakat al-Nujaba and Kata’ib Hezbollah regarding weapons.”

He suggested that “current circumstances indicate the possibility of renewed war in the region,” estimating that “Iraq’s losses amounted to about $60 billion as a result of the halt in oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz,” while confirming “the resumption of Iraqi oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz after understandings with Washington and Tehran.”

Regarding the “ISIS” organization, Hussein pointed out that “ISIS groups are stationed on the Syrian side of the border with Iraq, and there is a four-party committee that includes Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Turkey to combat the organization in Syria,” indicating that “Baghdad is moving militarily on the Syrian border to prevent the infiltration of ISIS elements and to combat drug smuggling.”
