On Monday, Hamid Al-Fatlawi, a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, revealed that the committee intends to open files related to the exceptions granted during the previous government headed by Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and violations in the estimates of the costs of investment projects, indicating that oversight efforts will continue to uncover corruption files in the coming days.

Al-Fatlawi told Shafaq News Agency that the lack of agreement between the political blocs regarding the selection of the heads of parliamentary committees and their deputies has prevented the selection of the head of the Integrity Committee so far, indicating that the political disputes were not limited to the Integrity Committee, but included the heads of other parliamentary committees.

He added that the failure to decide on the heads of the committees affects the course of their work and their oversight performance, noting that there is a trend to hold a session during the next week to vote on the heads of the committees and their members, after postponing the session that was scheduled to be held last week due to the lack of political consensus.

Regarding the files that the committee is working on, Al-Fatlawi explained that there are files related to previous government exceptions and investment projects that witnessed “inflation in the estimated amounts,” stressing that these files will be opened during the next stage.

He pointed out that the Integrity Committee hosted a number of figures, as well as the Financial Control Bureau, to review information and reports related to the ministries’ projects for the years 2024 and 2025, indicating that the reports obtained by the committee identified many violations.

Al-Fatlawi stressed that the committee is continuing to follow up on corruption cases and uncover them, and that its oversight actions are not tied to a specific date, but will continue during the coming days.

The issue of investment exemptions granted by the government of former Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has sparked widespread controversy and criticism from regulatory and legal bodies.

Last year, former member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Hadi al-Salami, revealed in a televised interview that the Sudanese government, the Higher Investment Committee, and the Council of Ministers granted approximately 400 exemptions from laws and regulations to investment companies without subjecting them to announcement or tender procedures.
