On Tuesday, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Iran to demonstrate good faith, cease its threats against the Gulf states, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that these steps are essential for the success of mediation efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and ending the crisis between Washington and Tehran through peaceful means.

The ministry said in a statement seen by Shafaq News Agency that the Qatari delegation’s visit to Tehran comes within the framework of supporting mediation efforts to defuse the current crisis, noting the continuation of consultations between regional and international partners to reach a final end to the crisis between the United States and Iran.

She added that the region needs a new regional security system that respects the sovereignty of states, noting that the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the countries of the Mecca Alliance complement the efforts led by Qatar and Pakistan to reduce escalation and resolve the crisis.

On Monday, the Iranian capital, Tehran, received a delegation from the “Mecca Alliance” countries, which included the Saudi Minister of Defense, the Pakistani Army Chief, and the Turkish Intelligence Chief, with the aim of taking a step described as effective towards building internal regional security.

This comes amid anticipation of a possible return of US military operations against Tehran in the coming period, in addition to the possibility of discussing the Houthi issue and steps to end the threat it poses to Riyadh.
