Iraqi Agriculture Ministry announces the opening of imports for three crops and the cancellation of fees and taxes on meat and eggsShafaq News – Baghdad
The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture announced on Wednesday that it has opened the door to imports of the following agricultural crops: potatoes, tomatoes, and onions, in addition to suspending the collection of customs duties and taxes imposed on imported eggs, chickens, and live meat products.

The ministry explained in an official statement that the decision was issued based on the directives of Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi, and with the follow-up of Agriculture Minister Abdul Rahim al-Shammari, to address the rise in food prices, alleviate the burdens on citizens, protect food security, prevent speculation, and prevent exploitation of market conditions.

This decision comes in conjunction with a surge in the prices of vegetables, red and white meat in local markets across various Iraqi governorates, affected by the repercussions of fluctuations in exchange rates and the implementation of the new dollar pricing.

The Iraqi federal government is betting, through this package of customs facilities and import allowances, on restoring financial balance to the daily food basket of citizens and curbing commercial speculation.
