Shafaq News/ The former Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said on Wednesday that Iraq has finally got rid of the provisions of Chapter VII in 2010. Zebari wrote a post on his Facebook account, which was reviewed by Shafak News Agency, entitled “The story of Iraq’s exit from the provisions of Chapter VII of history. The truth must be told.”
He explained that “Iraq and in the time of the government of Nuri al-Maliki and our leadership of the efficient Iraqi negotiating delegation with members of the UN Security Council 12/15/2010 and in the presence and presidency of US Vice President Joe Biden at the time of the Security Council session, the Council issued, at once, three international resolutions at once to liberate Iraq’s money from international tutelage And enabling Iraq to get rid of sanctions and benefit from scientific and technological progress, and Iraq to complete its sovereignty from all the burdens that affected its sovereignty, and by adopting those decisions and settlements with the affected countries. He added that “Iraq finally got rid of the provisions of Chapter VII as far as the situation is concerned between Iraq and Kuwait, and at that time we agreed to transfer the Kuwaiti compensation cases and the cases of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons to Chapter VI.” Zebari pointed out that $4 billion for individuals, companies, governmental organizations, and others, who incurred direct losses as a result of the invasion and occupation of Kuwait. Iraq had stopped making payments in 2014 during the war against ISIS, which controlled a third of the country, but it resumed it in 2018 by deducting 0.5% of the value of each exported barrel of oil.
