The US State Department announced that it has approved the sale of $800 million worth of military helicopters to Iraq.
The ministry said in a statement that the prime contractor would be Bell Textron, based in Fort Worth, Texas.
The American website “The Drive” revealed at the beginning of 2023 that Iraq was seeking to get rid of its Russian-made Mi-17 military helicopters and replace them with American ones, due to a shortage of spare parts caused by the war in Ukraine. This prompted Baghdad to accelerate its plans to replace and modernize its air fleet using American technology.
