Former MP Yasser Hashem confirmed the inability of parliamentarians to oppose the decision to increase the dollar exchange rate in local markets, given the agreement among political blocs and parties on the new rate.
Hashem told Al-Maalouma, “The agreement among political forces and blocs regarding the new exchange rate means that parliament has become powerless to oppose the decision to devalue the dinar.”
He added, “Even if the parliament were to reject the government’s decision to raise the dollar exchange rate, its decision would be disregarded due to the political agreement and approval among the blocs and parties to increase the exchange rate and proceed with the government’s decision.”
He explained that “the government must pay attention to the steps that need to be taken to mitigate the effects of the rising exchange rate, because otherwise, the people will face a real catastrophe, especially the middle and lower classes, who will suffer greatly as a result of the government’s new decision.”
