Yasser Al-Khaza’i, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that the Coordination Framework is committed to its candidate for Prime Minister, stressing that the Framework’s decisions are made independently of any external dictates or pressures, and are not affected by positions or tweets.
Al-Khaza’i told Al-Ma’louma News Agency, “The Coordination Framework is firm in its decision to nominate Nouri al-Maliki for Prime Minister, and there is no truth to the talk about an American veto preventing this nomination,” asking, “Who is promoting the existence of an American veto, and what is the evidence for that?”
He added that “Trump’s tweet does not mean anything to the framework, and will not affect the political course or the choices of the national forces,” stressing that “the decision is purely Iraqi and stems from internal understandings.”
He explained that “the file of electing the President of the Republic is completely separate from the selection of the Prime Minister candidate,” noting that “the complications related to the position of President of the Republic are mainly due to the disputes within the Kurdish house.”
He explained that “the Kurdish forces are facing complex problems in deciding on their candidate, due to the overlap of positions between Baghdad and the region, which has led to prolonging this constitutional entitlement.”
Al-Khaza’i concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the coordination framework is committed to fulfilling the political requirements in accordance with the constitution, calling on all parties to expedite the resolution of their differences and prioritize the national interest to end the political deadlock.
