Washington places Taif Sami on its terrorism watch list

On Friday, Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson announced that the State Department had revoked the visa of former Iraqi Finance Minister Taif Sami.
According to Johnson, who told Fox News: “While the Biden State Department shamefully celebrated and awarded prizes to foreigners who threaten our nation, the Trump State Department is revoking their visas and ensuring these individuals are kept out of our country.”
Fox News continued in its report, stating that Sami believes she is outside of Iraq, has been placed on the US terrorism watch list, and can no longer enter the United States.
Republican lawmakers have previously accused Taif Sami of helping to facilitate the financing of terrorism through the Iraqi financial system, and have urged the Trump administration to take action against her.
Representatives Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina) and Greg Stupp (R-FL) described the Iraqi minister as a “key facilitator of terrorist financing in Iraq” and pressed the administration to impose sanctions.
The Fox News report cited a report by the Iraqi News Agency, quoting sources familiar with the proceedings, that an Iraqi court summoned Sami and placed her on a wanted list, as authorities expanded an investigation into corruption cases involving former senior government officials.
