Was al-Zaidis selection an American deal to advance Washingtons interests in IraqAl-Maalomah/Anbar…
Anbar Alliance leader Mohammed al-Fahdawi revealed on Sunday that the selection of Ali al-Zaidi for prime minister was an American deal coordinated with certain leaders of political parties and blocs to serve US interests in Iraq.
Al-Fahdawi told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The selection of Ali al-Zaidi for prime minister came about through an American deal previously prepared in coordination with leaders of some political blocs and parties to manage American interests in Iraq according to the Trump administration’s plan, after its objection to the nominations of Nouri al-Maliki and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.”
He added, “America supported al-Zaidi and called on its allies to stand by his government for reasons that are transparently self-serving.” He explained that “there were American arrangements and deals concluded with al-Zaidi before his nomination for prime minister, and the American conditions were accepted, allowing the formation of his new government to proceed without further details being revealed about what was agreed upon beforehand and the concessions al-Zaidi made to the Trump administration in exchange for assuming the position.”
He asserted that “Washington’s interference in Iraqi affairs prevented the formation of the new government on schedule after its opposition to the selection of Maliki and Sudani for the premiership.”
