Warning of US interference in security appointments in the new governmentAl-Maalomah/Anbar –
Anbar Alliance leader Mohammed al-Dhalimi warned on Thursday of the repercussions of subjecting Ali al-Zaidi’s government to the Trump administration’s control over security personnel in Iraq.
Al-Dhalimi told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the Trump administration informed Ali al-Zaidi, the prime minister-designate, that he should not interfere in the appointment of the ministers of the interior and defense, as well as other security officials. The selection for these positions will be American, and the newly elected government will not be allowed to interfere in choosing security personnel to manage the security file. This coincides with American demands to dissolve an official security institution.”
He added that “America will use its veto power against security figures opposed to the Trump administration’s approach, amid reports that the vote on these positions will be postponed until after the Eid holiday, pending agreement between political alliances and Washington and a declaration of loyalty.” He explained that “Washington has given the green light to the nominee, Ali al-Zaidi, and pledged to support him both domestically and internationally if he implements the Trump administration’s policies.” He emphasized that “political alliances have rejected the American plan, describing it as blatant interference in Iraq’s affairs.”
