Wahib pledges before parliament to resolve Iraq’s electricity crisis within 15 days

MP Jaafar al-Zamili, from the Badr parliamentary bloc, revealed that Electricity Minister Ali Wahib pledged before the House of Representatives during his hosting on Monday to resolve the crisis within 15 days, through an agreement with the Iranian side to increase the flow of gas to the power stations.
Al-Zamili explained to Shafaq News Agency that “the upcoming official visit to Türkiye will discuss importing electricity from the Turkish side, and we will also work on resuming the flow of gas from the Kurdistan Region to the power stations.”
Al-Zamili pointed out that “the Ministry of Electricity will restore 9,000 megawatts to the national grid within the specified period.”
The Iraqi Parliament hosted, on Monday, during its seventh session of the sixth electoral cycle, first legislative year/second legislative term, the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib.
According to a statement from the Parliament’s media office, the House of Representatives raised a general topic for discussion regarding (the deteriorating state of the electrical system) in the presence of the Minister of Electricity and senior staff in the ministry.
It is worth noting that Minister Ali Saadi Wahib had confirmed during his appearance in Parliament last Saturday that completing the electrical interconnection projects with neighboring countries, along with addressing losses in the electrical grid, will contribute to raising energy production rates and improving supply hours during the next phase.
The Ministry of Electricity attributes the decline in power supply hours to several factors, including reduced gas supplies and violations on the electrical grid, at a time when most governorates are experiencing widespread power outages, reaching the point of complete blackout in some areas.
