Two framework blocs surround Shafaq News with the latest developments of the nighttime decisive meetingShafaq News – Baghdad
On Wednesday, MP Amer Al-Fayez, head of the “Tasmeem” coalition, and MP Saqr Al-Muhammadawi, from the “Sadiqun” bloc, revealed the latest developments regarding the anticipated meeting of the leaders of the coordination framework, which will be held tonight at the home of the head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Humam Hamoudi, to decide on a candidate for the premiership.

Al-Fayez explained to Shafaq News Agency that “the meeting of the framework leaders will focus on discussing and deciding on the mechanism for selecting the candidate for the next government, i.e., finding a middle ground that combines the two main proposed visions for selecting the candidate.”

He pointed out that “some members of the framework have views and observations, whether on the mechanism for selecting the candidate or on the candidate himself, but the majority agreed on the need to find an acceptable middle ground to end this deadlock, and the matter may be decided today by the selection mechanism, and perhaps the most suitable candidate will be chosen.”

Al-Fayez added: “If a choice cannot be made, we will definitely postpone the meeting to another time.”

He added: “So far, no candidate has withdrawn or been withdrawn from the nomination list, and if we agree on a specific mechanism for selecting the candidate, the candidates will be put forward individually for voting within the framework, including the compromise candidate.”

MP Sakr Al-Muhammadawi told Shafaq News Agency that “everyone is waiting today for the decision of the Coordination Framework to decide on the name of the candidate for the position of Prime Minister in today’s meeting, which will be held on its scheduled date, and there is no intention to postpone it.”

He added that “the leaders of the framework agreed to decide on the name of the candidate in today’s meeting.”

He pointed out that “if the coordinating framework does not agree on the name of the candidate in today’s meeting, then the compromise candidate will be chosen and the appropriate person will be selected for the premiership.”

The coordinating framework had failed to agree on a candidate for prime minister during two meetings held last Saturday and Monday, so the decision was postponed until Wednesday.

It is noted that the government formation process has entered a critical phase, following the election of Nizar Amidi as President of the Republic, which puts the major bloc before a constitutional deadline ending on April 26 to officially present its candidate, amid fears of returning to square one of political deadlock.
