On Thursday evening, MP Ibtisam al-Hilali, from the State of Law parliamentary bloc, attacked the “Reconstruction and Development” bloc, led by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and the “Progress” bloc, headed by Mohammed al-Halbousi, after the candidates of the coalition led by Nouri al-Maliki were not approved to assume the portfolios of the Ministries of Higher Education and Interior in the new government headed by Ali al-Zidi.
Al-Hilali told Shafaq News Agency that “the State of Law candidates for the Ministries of Higher Education and Interior were subjected to injustice, treachery, and betrayal by some members of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition and the Progress Party.”
She indicated that “the State of Law coalition will submit the names of the new candidates for the two ministries to Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.”
On Thursday afternoon, the Iraqi parliament voted to grant confidence to the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and its ministerial program, voting on 14 ministers, while postponing the vote on 6 ministries, including higher education and interior, due to objections to the candidates.
A parliamentary source told Shafaq News Agency that “the postponed ministries, along with the deputies of the President of the Republic and the Government, will be decided after the Eid al-Adha holiday.”
