The Ministry of Transport revealed Thursday, the latest developments regarding the Grand Faw Port project, confirming that the opening of the first phase will take place according to specific timetables.
The Ministry’s media office said in a statement received by Al-Furat News: “The Faw Port project is going through stages that are consistent with the development road project, stressing that what remains of the work in the port is simple, and that the opening of the first phase will be according to specific timetables, and there will be the largest industrial city in the Middle East within the Grand Faw Port, in addition to the presence of factories and water desalination plants.”
He explained that “the Faw Port project is on the verge of full completion, after the five berths were completed by 100% and handed over in 2024. The road linking the Grand Faw Port and the city of Umm Qasr was also completed by 100%, in addition to the completion of the navigation channel that represents the sea view of the port by 100%.”
The statement indicated that “the fourth project of the Grand Faw Port, the container yard, has exceeded 98% completion rates, and work is proceeding at a high pace, while the submerged tunnel is undergoing furnishing work after its complete completion.”
The statement said that “the Grand Faw Port is the main and primary station, and one of the essential components of the Development Road project,” indicating that “the port will give the Development Road project an Iraqi maritime view.”
