Three Kurdish blocs announced on Friday their participation in the session to elect the president of the republic. In a joint statement issued by the National Position Movement, the Kurdistan Islamic Union, and the Kurdistan Justice Group, the blocs stated, “Based on our national and constitutional responsibility, and in embodiment of our sincere desire to consolidate political stability and serve the people of our nation, the National Position Movement, the Kurdistan Islamic Union, and the Kurdistan Justice Group in the Iraqi Parliament affirm their firm determination to proceed with completing the constitutional requirements without delay or hesitation.”
She added that “the aforementioned forces announce their participation in tomorrow’s session, corresponding to April 10, 2026, which is dedicated to electing the President of the Republic, as a pivotal step on the path to restoring the regularity of constitutional work, and as a prelude to completing the serious efforts towards forming an effective government, capable of fulfilling its responsibilities, and meeting the aspirations of citizens for security, stability and a decent life.”
She affirmed that “these forces have their own candidate for the position of President of the Republic, namely Dr. Muthanna Amin, based on their conviction of his competence and ability to perform this national responsibility at this sensitive stage.” She continued: “We believe that the continued obstruction of these entitlements is no longer justifiable, due to the negative repercussions that directly affect the lives and livelihoods of citizens, and increase the complexity of the challenges facing the country. Therefore, we renew our call to all national forces to bear their historical responsibilities, prioritize the higher interest of the country, and move forward towards ending the state of political stagnation.”
