A source at the Iraqi Ports Company reported on Friday that three giant foreign oil tankers had docked at the port of Basra.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that the loading capacity of each of those tankers is two million barrels, and it is hoped that the Ministry of Oil will begin the loading operations and export a total of 6 million barrels of crude.
The source added that a fourth, smaller tanker is expected to arrive at the port with a cargo of one million barrels.
This comes in conjunction with what Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair al-Abadi announced earlier on Friday, that Iraq’s crude oil exports in July amounted to about 49 million barrels.
Al-Abadi said in a press conference held in Basra Governorate that there are four oil tankers that loaded crude oil today and are on their way to sail, revealing that the daily export rate of oil since the beginning of August until now has reached two million barrels, noting that this is happening for the first time in Iraq since the beginning of the regional crisis.
