Iraqi Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad revealed on Sunday details of the escape of two of the most wanted men in financial corruption cases to France, coinciding with international leaks that identified them explicitly and their connection to the “refinery contracts” file.
Sand said in a post on the social networking site Facebook, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, that the official in charge of the “economic committee affiliated with the suspended agent” had fled outside Iraq, heading to France with his brother, indicating that they had huge sums of money smuggled, estimated at about half a billion US dollars.
The minister affirmed that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi insists on pursuing them legally and judicially through international channels to recover them and the smuggled funds.
In the same context, Al-Arabiya TV quoted informed sources as saying that the two fugitive brothers have their identities clearly stated, confirming that the Iraqi judiciary has indeed issued an international arrest warrant (Interpol) for both Hassan al-Kurdi and Muhammad al-Kurdi in connection with what is known as the “Refinery Case”.
The sources explained that the two “Kurdi” brothers were outside Iraq at the time of the arrest of the other defendant in the case, “Adnan Al-Jumaili”, indicating that “Hassan Al-Kurdi” is considered one of the most wanted figures currently, as he was directly responsible for managing the “commissions” file in refinery contracts, and he succeeded in smuggling millions of dollars through a complex financial network operating outside the country.
