Some political blocs and parties are conducting intensive efforts to challenge the legitimacy of the vote on Prime Minister Ali al-Zidi’s cabinet, especially after the events that took place during the session and the tension that occurred in front of everyone. Some blocs are working to find a consensus formula among themselves in order to go to the Federal Court to challenge the session. This comes in conjunction with the statements that were issued regarding the rejection of the candidates of some political blocs without a clear justification, which has angered the blocs that presented the candidates, most notably the State of Law, the Democratic Party and the Azm Alliance.
Wafa Muhammad Karim, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, told Al-Maalomah that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the State of Law Coalition, and the Azm Alliance have a project to form a strong alliance among themselves, but this matter may see the light after Eid.”
He added that “the birth of this alliance is linked to the issue of settling the ministerial cabinet and the remaining portfolios in Al-Zaidi’s government, as this issue is being studied, but we are waiting for understandings and the extent of seriousness in passing the candidates of the aforementioned parties.”
He indicated that “there is a move to go to the Federal Court to challenge the vote on the cabinet and to find out the results that the court will announce, after which alternative names will be submitted from the State of Law and the Democratic Party, and another position will be taken in the event of a political objection to the nominated names.”
For his part, Salah Al-Marawi, a member of the Al-Azm Alliance, confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “the dismissal of Al-Halbousi is one of the options being considered within the Al-Azm Alliance during the next phase, in addition to the inclination of other political forces to support this course.”
He added that “the Speaker of Parliament deliberately, as he described it,” “manipulated the order of presenting the ministries and changed the formula presented by the Prime Minister,” as it was supposed to “present the sovereign ministries first, then the security ministries, then the service ministries,” but that did not happen.
Al-Marawi pointed out that “the parliament’s leadership adopted the ‘your eye is your scale’ method in counting the votes of the representatives, in addition to what was circulated in the media regarding the participation of employees in the council in the voting process and raising hands and counting them in an unusual way that reveals serious manipulation.”
He noted that “the session witnessed clear administrative confusion and weak performance on the part of the parliament’s leadership, and the Federal Court will be used to challenge some of the session’s proceedings, and perhaps the entire session—an option adopted by other political forces in addition to the Azm Alliance.”
