The Victory Coalition calls for a decisive session to finalize the framework and clarify the issuesAl-Maalomah/Baghdad –
Aqeel al-Rudaini, a member of the Victory Coalition, confirmed on Tuesday that the meetings and decisions of the Coordination Framework are based on the principle of complete consensus among its members. He explained that Nouri al-Maliki’s nomination came within this framework, despite objections from some political forces.
Speaking to Al-Maalomah News Agency, al-Rudaini clarified that “the Coordination Framework represents the largest parliamentary bloc and provides political and legal cover for the work of the Council of Representatives, but it is not a constitutional institution in itself.” He pointed out that “Sunni and Kurdish parties, along with influential Shiite forces, have expressed reservations about al-Maliki’s nomination for prime minister.”
He added that “the majority of Sunni and Kurdish forces, as well as some within the Shiite political establishment, oppose proceeding with the formation of a government headed by al-Maliki,” noting that “the latter is seeking a legal way out of the crisis within a legitimate framework and is not clinging rigidly to the nomination as much as he is striving to find a solution that preserves political stability.”
Regarding the external situation, Al-Rudaini stated that “the United States is acting according to its own agendas and interests in Iraq,” considering the policies of the American president to be characterized by an approach that seeks to impose hegemony at the international level.
Al-Rudaini called on the forces within the Coordination Framework to “shoulder their national responsibilities and expedite a decisive session to clarify matters and reach a clear solution to the political crisis,” warning that “the continued deadlock could expose Iraq to serious repercussions, including the possibility of American sanctions or even military targeting.”
