Secretary – General of the United Nations welcomed, Antonio Guterres, on Saturday, declaring the formation of a large part of the new Iraqi government, calling on them to work in order to promote national reconciliation and security in the country.
“The Secretary-General congratulates Adel Abdul Mahdi on his inauguration as Prime Minister of Iraq, and welcomes the announcement of the formation of the new government and the government program in accordance with the constitutional framework,” a spokesman for Guterich said on the UN website.
The statement urged the government to “consider appointing suitable female figures for ministerial posts that remain vacant.”
Guterich expressed his hope that “the new government will be able to speed up the overall efforts to rebuild the country, promote national reconciliation and lasting peace and security in Iraq.”
The UN Secretary-General reiterated the organization’s support for the Iraqi government.
