The mayor of Rutba district in Anbar province, Imad al-Rishawi, confirmed on Thursday that the Trebil border crossing is witnessing increasing commercial activity with the passage of about a thousand trucks daily, noting the need for the crossing to be urgently expanded to increase its capacity.

Al-Rishawi told Shafaq News Agency that the crossing receives trucks loaded with various types of goods daily, including oil products, construction materials, sulfur, and consumer goods, as well as items for the ration card.

He added that the current momentum requires expanding the squares and developing the port’s infrastructure, explaining that the ongoing rehabilitation work includes developing some squares and installing cameras and sonars to enhance security and organizational aspects.

He pointed out that the current volume of trade necessitates the implementation of more development and service projects within the port.

Al-Rishawi explained that there is a trend towards maintaining and rehabilitating the remaining ferries and facilities, with the aim of raising their operational efficiency and preparing four ferries to operate during the next phase, which will contribute to facilitating the movement of trucks and reducing congestion.

The Trebil border crossing is the only land crossing that connects Iraq and Jordan. It is located in the far west of Anbar Governorate within the Rutba district, and is considered a vital economic artery for trade and passenger traffic between the two countries.
