Ali al-Fatlawi, a member of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, confirmed that political parties have agreed to submit more than one candidate for each vacant ministerial post. This will allow Prime Minister-designate al-Zaidi the opportunity to choose a candidate from among the nominees to complete his cabinet and hold a vote on the remaining positions this month.
Al-Fatlawi told Al-Maalouma, “The political forces are still stalling on the cabinet formation, despite calls to finalize the vote on the vacant ministerial portfolios in al-Zaidi’s government.”
He added, “There are calls to nominate more than one person for each vacant ministerial post, while some blocs insist on submitting only one candidate. This does not give the Prime Minister any room to choose or select a candidate from among the nominees.”
He explained that “the issue of submitting more than one candidate for each ministerial post has been raised within the coordination framework, in order to pass them this month to fill the ministerial vacancies and ensure the completion of al-Zaidi’s cabinet.”
