The Sudanese bloc reveals the reason for the frameworks insistence on nominating Maliki for the premiershipThe Information Agency/Baghdad –
The Reconstruction and Development Bloc, headed by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, confirmed on Monday that the Coordination Framework’s insistence on its candidate, Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, stems from two main reasons: First, the Framework’s refusal to be held hostage to any external interference or influence on its decisions; and second, the instability of the Trump administration’s policies, which change within days or even hours, impacting dealings with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The bloc’s official spokesperson, MP Firas al-Muslawi, told the Information Agency that “the recent meeting of the Coordination Framework’s leaders emphasized three main points: the Framework’s commitment to its candidate, Nouri al-Maliki, for the premiership of the next government; the establishment of balanced relations with regional and international countries, particularly the United States, with which Iraq has the Strategic Framework Agreement; and finally, adherence to the constitutional timelines for forming the government as quickly as possible.”
Al-Muslawi added that “what is being circulated about concerns regarding the framework’s adherence to Maliki is unfounded,” noting that “the framework refuses to submit to any external dictates, and that the rapid shifts in American positions necessitate reliance on independent national decisions.”
Earlier, the Coordination Framework reiterated its commitment to nominating former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to form the new government.
