Salah Boushi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Wednesday that completing the cabinet is a political and governmental priority, noting that resolving this issue must be done through understanding and dialogue between the political forces, in order to ensure the formation of a government capable of performing its duties without obstruction.
Bushi told Al-Maalomah that “the State of Law Coalition is holding firm to its position regarding its candidates for the Interior and Education portfolios, indicating that there are currently no signs of the coalition changing its position or backing down from its choices.”
He added that “the names being put forward as alternatives or new candidates to fill the remaining ministries are still under discussion and political debate, and cannot be considered a final decision before an agreement is reached between the concerned parties.”
Bushi indicated that “the next stage may witness more serious political activity aimed at resolving the issue of the remaining ministries, noting that the completion of understandings between the political forces may open the door to an agreement soon to complete the cabinet.”
Bushi stressed that “the priority should be to select individuals based on competence, in parallel with achieving political consensus, stressing that what is required is to transform political understandings into clear government decisions that contribute to enhancing the performance of state institutions and serving citizens.”
The al-Zaydi government faces a continuing challenge: nine ministries are currently headed by acting ministers. This stems from the cabinet vote session, which saw a clear impasse in approving several nominees. Political and legal controversy arose regarding the voting mechanisms and procedures followed during the session, particularly after Speaker of Parliament, Haibat al-Halbousi, criticized the way the vote was conducted and what he described as a departure from established procedures for approving previous cabinets. This has further complicated the process of completing the government formation.
