Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed that the government is proceeding with the fight against corruption, stressing that it is a “first step” and will be followed by other steps and procedures, while pledging to recover public funds and restrict weapons to the hands of the state.
In a speech during yesterday’s cabinet meeting, Prime Minister al-Zaidi stated that the government will pursue all those who steal public funds, calling on anyone in possession of public money to return it. He emphasized that “the people’s money must be returned to its rightful owners.”
He added that he is entrusted by the citizens to fulfill their hopes and build the nation, and that he bears the responsibility of protecting the people’s interests and lives. He affirmed that he will not remain silent about any wrongdoing or compromise in defending the interests of the Iraqi people.
He indicated that the government will be distinguished this year, noting the desire to contract for the production of 25,000 megawatts of electricity, in conjunction with the maintenance of the power grid. He explained that the electricity situation will improve next year and witness an even greater transformation the following year.
Al-Zaidi affirmed that Iraq will begin a new chapter, that weapons will be exclusively in the hands of the state, and that force will be the sole prerogative of the state.
The Prime Minister stressed that no corrupt individual in this government “will enjoy any immunity,” emphasizing his readiness to sacrifice for the good of the country. He clarified that he is not seeking reappointment or to run for office again, but rather to address the situations that “cannot be ignored.”
Al-Zaydi concluded his speech by addressing a message to the citizens, saying: “Rest assured, there are trustworthy guardians of your interests and your money.”
