European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed on Friday that the European Union stands in full solidarity with Saudi Arabia following the attack on an airport in Riyadh.
This came in a post written by von der Leyen on her “X” account, in which she said: “We stand in full solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia and our partners in the Gulf.”
She stressed that “targeting civilian infrastructure is unacceptable,” noting that “Iran’s proxies must stop their reckless and violent actions.”
Von der Leyen offered her sincere condolences to the families of the three victims who died in the attack on King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation had announced earlier on Friday that King Khalid International Airport was subjected to two attacks on Thursday, the first of which targeted airport facilities, while the second targeted a Saudi Airlines plane.
The authority confirmed in an official statement that emergency teams and relevant authorities began dealing with the “two attacks” immediately after they occurred, in accordance with approved procedures and plans.
The authority stated that the two attacks resulted in the death of three Saudi citizens and the injury of a number of citizens and residents of different nationalities, whose injuries ranged from minor to severe, indicating that the injured were immediately transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care, in addition to recording some material damage.
