The President calls on political forces to support the Prime Minister-designate

President Nizar Amidi announced on Monday (April 27, 2026) that he has tasked Ali al-Zidi, the candidate of the largest parliamentary bloc, with forming the new government, confirming that the third stage of the constitutional entitlement has been completed without delay.
Amidi said in a statement that “based on our constitutional responsibilities, we have tasked the candidate of the largest parliamentary bloc, Ali al-Zaidi, with forming the new government,” noting that this entitlement “could not tolerate delay under the current circumstances.”
The President called for the formation of “a strong national government that represents all Iraqis and meets their aspirations.”
Amidi also called on all political forces to support the designated prime minister, in order to expedite the completion of the constitutional and national entitlement, in a way that serves the interests of Iraq and its people.
The appointment was made during a meeting held at the Government Palace in the presence of the presidencies and leaders of political forces, after the Coordination Framework had decided on its choice and nominated Al-Zaydi as the representative of the largest bloc in the House of Representatives.
