The head of the organizing committee for the Belt and Road Movement, Hussein al-Karawi, criticized Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s praise of the US administration and the reciprocal praise from Washington, noting that this was aimed at serving American interests in Iraq. Al-Karawi told Al-Maalomah, “The mutual praise between al-Zaidi and Trump did not come out of nowhere, but rather stemmed from American support and their welcoming of his appointment as prime minister. Therefore, al-Zaidi’s praise of the US administration comes because they stood behind him to reach the position in order to serve American interests within Iraq.”
He added, “Al-Zaidi’s cooperation with the US administration and opening the door to US companies is not surprising, but what is surprising and perplexing is the silence of the coordinating body that brought al-Zaidi to power.”
He indicated that “the body should have been transparent with the public if the American administration had imposed al-Zaidi on its members to assume the position of prime minister.”
