Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Jawad al-Saadi, revealed on Saturday that September 30th is the scheduled date for the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, including those stationed in the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing that there are no discussions regarding extending the withdrawal date.
Al-Saadi told the Information Agency, “The Iraqi government has confirmed that the withdrawal of US forces on September 30th is a fixed date, and there are no discussions about extending it.” He explained that “Iraq no longer needs foreign forces, given that it possesses a comprehensive security system capable of protecting the country and confronting any threats.”
He added that “the priority after the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq will be arming the army and security forces and developing their capabilities,” noting “the importance of strengthening military and security capabilities to ensure the readiness of Iraqi forces and their continued ability to perform their duties in protecting the country.”
Al-Saadi explained that Iraq had previously agreed with the international coalition to end its forces’ presence in the country by September 30th, after Iraqi forces, in all their formations—army, police, and Popular Mobilization Forces—became capable of holding territory and maintaining security, thus eliminating the need for the international coalition’s continued combat mission in Iraq.
