On Monday, Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani gave a full briefing on the ministry’s plans for the current phase after exports from the southern ports were disrupted as a result of the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
This came during a meeting held by the caretaker Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, which was dedicated to assessing the reality of oil and energy in light of the repercussions of the war taking place in the region, in the presence of the Minister of Oil, the ministry’s undersecretaries, energy and economic advisors, and officials of the fuel departments in the Ministry of Electricity, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency.
During the meeting, the plans of the Ministry of Oil, SOMO, and energy sector officials in the Ministry of Electricity were reviewed, and the Minister of Oil presented a comprehensive overview of the ministry’s plan in the current phase after the disruption of exports from the southern ports.
Abdul Ghani confirmed that there is an adequate stock of various fuel derivatives required to maintain energy stability in the country, with refineries continuing to operate at full capacity and in a stable manner that fully covers the needs of the Iraqi market.
According to the statement, the meeting discussed proposals for the process of exporting Iraqi oil through the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, and new proposals for export, in addition to discussing the components of fuel oil, gas oil, kerosene, gasoline, black oil, and local and imported gas.
Fuel prices supplied to local Iraqi projects were also reviewed, as well as proposed solutions to ensure the continued operation of domestic industrial projects in the public and private sectors, without interruption or being affected by high global prices.
The meeting concluded with a set of proposals that were agreed upon to be submitted to the Cabinet for appropriate decisions, and to continue the work of the fuel crisis cell to develop immediate and urgent solutions to any developments related to current events in the region.
