Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi affirmed on Monday evening that confronting internal and external challenges, assessing risks, and seizing opportunities will be among the “priorities” of his government program, noting that Iraq’s economic capabilities provide an opportunity to manage a capable state.
In his first statement after being officially appointed by the Presidency of the Republic as Prime Minister, Al-Zidi said: “I would like to begin by thanking the brothers, the leaders of the Coordination Framework, for nominating me for the position of Prime Minister of Iraq. I assure you, our noble people, that confronting the internal and external challenges surrounding us is among the priorities of our upcoming work, and that what Iraq enjoys in terms of human and natural resources provides an opportunity for governance within the vision of a state that is economically capable and socially prosperous.”
He added that “our upcoming government program will complement all the blessed efforts that have been made to improve the service and social reality, while setting priorities that take into account the assessment of risks and seizing opportunities, so that Iraq will be a balanced country regionally and internationally.”
Al-Zaydi concluded: “This assignment comes at a sensitive time that requires concerted efforts from all political and social forces so that we may enjoy a country worthy of the name of Iraq.”
This evening, the Coordination Framework announced the nomination of Ali al-Zidi for the position of Prime Minister, while praising the positions of (al-Sudani and al-Maliki) for withdrawing their nominations.
The framework stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “an important meeting was held by the framework at the Government Palace in Baghdad, which represents a symbol of the continuity of state institutions, and the headquarters of the executive authority that emanates from the will of the Iraqi people.”
