The new Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, pledged on Sunday to work on finding effective solutions to the chronic energy supply crisis that has plagued most regions and cities of Iraq for a long time.
This came in a speech he delivered while officially assuming his duties within the ministry, in which the minister said, “Our mission is a national service mission, based on gaining the citizen’s trust and finding solutions to end his suffering resulting from the electricity crisis,” stressing that “it is the citizen’s right that we serve him in a manner befitting him.”
A few days ago, the Deputy Minister of Electricity for Production Affairs, Mohammed Nima, confirmed that Iraq’s power generation system is going through “very critical conditions” due to a decline in domestic gas production and a halving of gas imports from Iran as a result of the ongoing war and regional tensions. Iraq has suffered from a chronic electricity shortage for decades due to sanctions and successive wars.
