The Ministry of Transport announced the imminent launch of the submerged tunnel within the Grand Faw Port project.
In a press statement, the director of the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, said that the tunnel works have reached their final stages, as it is currently being furnished and prepared for cladding, stressing that the giant engineering project will enhance maritime transport and contribute to increasing the port’s ability to receive huge commercial ships.
He pointed out that the tunnel will contribute to stimulating trade between Iraq and the countries of the world, and will enhance commercial interaction with international markets, in addition to providing thousands of job opportunities in the fields of construction and logistics.
Al-Safi affirmed the government’s full support for completing this phase of the project, which aims to transform the port of Faw into a global trade hub, thereby enhancing Iraq’s economic standing on the international stage and strengthening its role in linking Middle Eastern markets with Europe.
