The Ministry of Planning held a preliminary meeting Sunday (August 16, 2026), to discuss preparations for the 2027 investment budget proposals, chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Technical Affairs, Maher Hammad Johan.
The ministry said in a statement that “the meeting comes as a prelude to the launch of discussions on the annual investment budget, according to a timetable extending from August 16 to 31, 2026, to discuss proposals from ministries, governorates and entities not affiliated with a ministry, and to study proposed investment projects and allocations and evaluate their priorities and readiness for implementation.”
She added that “the meeting included a discussion of the technical and procedural requirements for preparing the investment plan for next year, and a review of data and information related to projects and investment allocations.”
She noted that “the meeting emphasized the importance of the Iraqi Development Management System (IDMS) in organizing and managing development projects and data, as well as reviewing the most prominent technical and technological updates that have been made to the system, which would enhance the accuracy of the data, accelerate its circulation, and develop mechanisms for managing and monitoring it.”
The ministry stressed the importance of adopting clear standards in studying projects, taking into account the actual needs of the governorates and sectors, completion rates, and economic and social importance, in order to contribute to preparing a realistic and implementable investment plan and directing resources towards priority projects with developmental impact.
