Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi directed on Saturday that procedures for the strategic export pipeline project be expedited and that technical and commercial discussions be intensified to reach the contract signing stage as soon as possible, during an expanded meeting that included senior leaders in the ministry.
A statement from the ministry said that the meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Naseer Aziz, and the Directors General of the Basra Oil Company and the North Oil Company, as well as the leadership staff, to discuss the practical steps for the strategic export pipeline project (Basra – Haditha – Fishkhabur) and (Haditha – Banias).
The statement explained that the project is one of the major vital projects aimed at diversifying Iraq’s oil export outlets, with a huge export capacity estimated at 2.25 million barrels per day.
He added that the project implementation mechanisms were reviewed by a consortium of international companies, namely: the American companies Chevron and Ti Capital, and the Qatari company UCC.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Abadi emphasized the strategic and economic importance of the project for the future of Iraq and the development of its infrastructure in the energy sector.
