Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi stressed on Wednesday (October 21, 2026) the need to intensify efforts and take the necessary measures and decisions to increase oil production rates and raise export quantities, in order to support the national economy and enhance the state’s financial revenues.
The ministry said in a statement that this came during Al-Abadi’s chairmanship of the crisis cell meeting, which witnessed a discussion of the files of production, export, distribution of oil derivatives and consumption rates, with the aim of making appropriate decisions regarding them.
The statement added that the minister stressed the importance of officials in the oil formations assuming their leadership responsibilities and making decisions that contribute to developing work within the ministry’s four sectors.
Al-Abadi directed the extraction companies to submit plans and visions that would increase production to levels commensurate with the size of the oil wealth that Iraq possesses, with the need to provide production figures, rates and estimates that meet the aspirations of the government and the ministry.
He pointed out that raising production and export rates is part of the Ministry and government’s plans to increase financial revenues, which supports the government’s ability to provide services in various sectors.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, and a number of advisors and general managers of oil formations.
