Sources close to the “National Political Council” revealed on Tuesday that a number of Sunni political blocs and figures have submitted the names of candidates to fill ministerial positions in the anticipated government headed by Ali al-Zidi.

According to the sources, the Progress Party, led by Mohammed al-Halbousi, nominated Mohammed Nouri, Abdul Karim Hassan al-Dulaimi, and Sinan al-Jumaili for the Ministry of Industry.

The party also nominated Miqdam al-Jumaili, Abdul Karim Abtan, Ghazi al-Jubouri, and Watban al-Jubouri for the Ministry of Education.

“Progress” nominated Mohammed Tamim, Khaled Battal, and Falah Hassan Al-Zaidan for the position of Deputy Prime Minister.

The sources added that the Sovereignty Party, led by Khamis al-Khanjar, nominated Atheer al-Ghurairi, Shaalan al-Karim, Abdullah al-Nujaifi, Mustafa Nizar, and Farhan Saleh for the Ministry of Trade.

In this context, the Al-Hasm Alliance nominated the alliance’s leader, Thabit Al-Abbasi, for the Ministry of Defense, along with Nayef Al-Shammari.

The sources indicated that the Al-Jamahir Party, led by Ahmed Al-Jubouri, nominated Mazen Al-Jubouri, Tariq Al-Jubouri, and Badr Al-Fahhal for the Ministry of Culture.

On the other hand, Basra MPs signed a document demanding the province’s “ministerial entitlement,” especially the ministries of oil, transport and water resources, while warning of boycotting confidence vote sessions if their demands are ignored, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency.

Previous political leaks to Shafaq News Agency indicated that Al-Zidi intended to present about 14 ministerial portfolios to Parliament for confidence, amidst ongoing disputes between political forces over some sovereign and security ministries, particularly oil and defense, coinciding with the circulation of names of candidates for a number of ministries and senior positions.

Parliamentary sources also spoke of a political agreement to pass the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi during this week, after the ministerial program was submitted to the parliament’s presidency.
