On Monday, the Kurdistan Region’s negotiating delegation with Baghdad held a meeting in Erbil, attended by a number of economic experts and decision-makers in the region’s political and governmental center, to discuss the ongoing negotiations regarding the Kurds’ share in Iraq’s 2027 budget.

Adnan Othman, head of the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies, told Shafaq News Agency that the purpose of this meeting was to assess the results of the efforts made by the region’s negotiating delegation regarding Kurdistan’s share in the 2027 budget, with the participation of political parties and decision-making and governing centers in the region, to review their observations and directives to the negotiating delegation.

Othman pointed out that, based on what the negotiating delegation presented during its visits to Baghdad and its discussions with political and governmental centers in Iraq, although there is a “more open mind” in Baghdad and a greater understanding of the constitutional and legal rights of the region, risks still exist regarding the legal and financial entitlements of Kurdistan.

He added that this step requires Kurdish political support, which is embodied in unity and cohesion among the Kurdish political forces.

Othman explained that they are closely monitoring the impact of the unity steps in Iraq on the gains of the region, especially in the 2027 budget, which is the first budget project that the current Iraqi government is working on, stressing that the final decision will be the decision of the political and governmental center in the Kurdistan Region.
