The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed, on Sunday, that the House of Representatives will vote on the election financing law separately from the draft general budget bill for 2021.
Committee member Jamal Cougar said, “We were hoping for the government that the election financing project would be part of the draft General Budget Law for 2021 and not separately from it.”
He added that “the law was read in a first reading at a session, yesterday, Saturday, and will witness the second reading and voting in the next sessions of the House of Representatives,” stressing that “Parliament will vote on the election financing law independently of the budget.”
Earlier on Sunday, the Committee to Monitor the Implementation of the Governmental Program and Strategic Planning in the Iraqi Parliament confirmed that there is an objection to the amount required in the election financing law, which is 329 billion dinars.
Last month, the Parliamentary Finance Committee announced that the government requested 60 billion dinars from parliament for a borrowing law to finance the High Electoral Commission, confirming that the election financing law did not reach the parliament.
