On Monday, Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi called on businessmen and companies to contribute to the “One Million Residential Plots” project, while allocating a percentage to each governorate from the financial revenues obtained from border crossings and electricity consumption fees.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that Al-Zaydi chaired today the second session of the Higher Committee for Coordination between Governorates for the year 2026, during which the general conditions in the governorates and the service and living aspects in them were discussed, as well as a number of topics and files presented to the committee, in the presence of a number of ministers, the director of the Prime Minister’s office, governors, heads of governorate councils and advisors.

During the meeting, Al-Zaydi stressed “the issue of loose weapons, and the importance of proceeding with restricting them to the hands of state institutions, which will support the role of development and the development of the local economy.”

He also pointed to “measures to combat corruption, and the need for action not to target small-time corrupt individuals and leave the larger levels untouched.”

Al-Zaydi directed that “reviews and audits of project performance should begin with determining and auditing estimated costs, a stage that must be carried out with integrity and transparency to protect public funds.”

He pointed out that “there is an exaggeration in the estimated costs of the projects, and they are unacceptably high, and may even amount to theft.”

He called on businessmen and companies that worked on projects in the governorates to “contribute to the project of (1) million residential plots, and to prepare the infrastructure for them.”

Al-Zaydi continued: “We encourage the provinces to proceed with self-financing projects, especially in the electricity sector, so that 50% of the revenues return to the energy-producing province,” stressing, “Commercial plots, water projects, and services in the provinces must be invested in, in order to raise the level of service and maximize revenues.”

He pointed out that “the revenues from border crossings should be reflected in the governorate concerned and its development,” while stressing “the importance of respecting the rights of martyrs and the wounded, and the rights of their families, which is a great responsibility that must be fulfilled.”
