MP Aqeel Al-Fatlawi called on Thursday for the need to expedite the completion of the cabinet, stressing that the continued management of ministries by acting ministers is not in the interest of government work, especially important security ministries.
Al-Fatlawi told Al-Maalouma that “appointing permanent ministers for the Ministries of Interior and Defense is of utmost importance at the present time, as they are among the most prominent ministries that require independent management and high focus in performing their duties, especially in light of the tense conditions in the region, which call for the highest levels of attention and vigilance to prevent a repeat of falling into the trap of terrorism as happened previously.”
He added that “it is necessary to hold a parliamentary session to name the remaining ministers in the government,” indicating that “the coordination framework stressed in its recent meetings the importance of completing the cabinet as soon as possible.”
Al-Fatlawi pointed out that “resolving the issue requires a political agreement that shortens the path to naming the remaining ministers,” stressing that “new names cannot be put forward for a vote without prior agreement among the political forces regarding them, in order to avoid a repeat of what happened in the session to vote on the cabinet, and the problems and fallacies that accompanied it.”
He explained that “the cabinet had previously witnessed a disregard for sufficient scrutiny and review of the candidates’ names, as a result of everyone’s tendency to shorten the time as much as possible and vote on the cabinet, in order to avoid any political deadlock or dispute that might delay the formation of the government, as well as to avoid violating constitutional timelines, in light of regional and external challenges.”
He indicated that “any name put forward at the present time will be subject to extensive discussion and greater scrutiny,” revealing that there is a near-agreement among the political forces to finalize the cabinet formation process and resolve it definitively.
Earlier, Aqeel al-Rudaini, spokesman for the Victory Coalition, called in a statement to Al-Maalomah for expediting the completion of the cabinet, stressing that continued delays hinder the implementation of the government program and affect the government’s ability to address crises.
