A source in Anbar province revealed on Monday that the Federal Integrity Commission has launched a comprehensive investigation into the theft of over $30 million by Mohammed al-Halbousi during his tenure as governor of Anbar in 2017. The funds were allocated for the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by terrorist operations in the province.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The Federal Integrity Commission has opened a broad investigation into the embezzlement of $30 million by Mohammed al-Halbousi during his time as governor of Anbar in 2017 and previous years, as well as his connection to corruption within the fund for the reconstruction of affected areas.” The source
added, “The Integrity Commission is also auditing the files of industrial city projects. Audit committees have confirmed the existence of theft and manipulation in the disbursement process, as well as the disappearance and burning of documents by party leaders to prevent the exposure of these disbursement operations and manipulation of the value of contracts signed with local companies.”
He added that “most reconstruction projects were awarded to Al-Halbousi’s Iron Company Limited or Beit Al-Hadid Contracting Company,” asserting that “Al-Halbousi embezzled huge sums of money that were not disclosed and were registered in the names of his associates.”
