The House of Representatives raised its special session, held today, Monday, regarding the fire accident at Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, south of the capital, Baghdad.
The House of Representatives opened this afternoon its deliberative session chaired by the First Deputy Speaker, Hassan Karim al-Kaabi, regarding the Ibn al-Khatib hospital incident.
According to the media department of the council, Al-Kaabi obligated during his presidency of the session the Ministry of Finance to direct the necessary allocations to complete the regular hospitals that have reached advanced stages in all governorates and not to invoke unacceptable excuses.
Al-Kaabi also announced, re-disengaging the health and educational departments from the governorates and returning them to the Ministry of Health and Education.
A fire broke out in the intensive care unit at Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, southeast of the capital, Baghdad, last Saturday evening, and the accident resulted in the deaths of 82 people and wounding 110 others, according to the Ministry of Interior.
The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, announced the general mourning for three days for the lives of the victims, and directed an investigation to be opened to uncover the circumstances of the accident, saying that it was “a prejudice to national security, and a setback that should not pass easily.”
The Prime Minister decided, in an extraordinary meeting, on Sunday, to suspend the Minister of Health, Hassan Al-Tamimi, and the Governor of Baghdad, Muhammad Jaber Atta, and the Director of Al-Rusafa Health, Abdul-Ghani Al-Saadi, from work, and to refer them to investigation on the background of the tragic accident, stressing that “it will be completed.” The investigation will take place within five days, and the report will be submitted to the Council of Ministers. ”
