The Syrian Petroleum Company announced the start of unloading the first shipments of Iraqi fuel oil at the Banias terminal in preparation for exporting it.
The company confirmed that this process represents an important development in the logistics system of the energy sector, noting that the loading and export operations are carried out according to high technical and regulatory standards to ensure the continuity of supplies and the smooth flow of transportation.
She added that this step enhances Syria’s role as a strategic corridor in the regional energy movement, and confirms its ability to provide effective logistical solutions that support integration between the countries of the region and facilitate exchange operations in the energy sector.
It is noted that the loading operations take place via the Banias oil terminal on the Syrian coast, which is a vital facility in the energy infrastructure.
The flow of Iraqi fuel into Syria through the Tanf crossing comes at a time when the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most vital waterway for oil and gas exports, is experiencing a near-complete halt to maritime traffic as a result of the military escalation between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
The strait, through which about 20% of the world’s oil production passes, is a major artery for the exports of the Gulf states, including Iraq, which relies mainly on exporting its oil through its southern ports overlooking the Gulf.
